We are Signmakers handcrafting historic house signs lettered and painted using traditional signwriting methods and built to last. We use only brushes and all our signs are made, painted and lettered by hand.
"There is a intentional purity of process to my signmaking," confides signmaker Tim Kearns, "that is intentional on my part so that I can fully embrace the creative process that is working with cedar plank and hand crafting it into a work of art. My approach and love for what I do shines through if you view my posts on Instagram@handpainted_woodsigns or speak with my by phone. I'm an historic home owner and enjoy speaking to others who share that love."
Handpaintedwoodsigns.com was started in 2003 to meet the historic homeowner's need for an authentic hand lettered historic house sign. Starting with one shape and size plaque, the 14x11 french corner rectangle, our popularity grew online. Today, we hand craft our own cedar historic house signs and now offer over 25 standard sizes and shapes of signs. We also make larger custom size and shape signs by request. Our Medford NJ sign shop is located on Main Street in historic Medford, Burlington County, New Jersey. Our hand painted signs adorn many local private and commercial buildings including Kirby's Mill, Medford's iconic and treasured historic mill.
In 2014 we expanded our line of cedar signs in standard sizes. Still though, we hand sand every inch of every piece of wood we touch. And every sign gets that great hand lettered hand painted text.
As we enter our 20th year in 2022, we continue to take great pride in learning about the property and house for the signs that we hand craft. We love seeing pictures and hearing the "backstory" of each house, some of which we share in our site's Hand Painted Sign Gallery and on Instagram and Facebook. We understand our customers' needs to be able to trust that we are going to create the perfect sign for their house or property. After all, we are historic house owners as well. Below is the Thomas Potts House, an 1863-built historic home that was once the Star Glass Company owner's house Frank Reily, in Medford, New Jersey.
